| Term | Definition |
| pH | A measurement that indicates the degree of acidity or alkalinity of a material. On a scale from 0-14, pH 7.0 is neutral, above 7.0 is alkaline (acid-free or base), and below 7.0 is acidic. The scale is a logarithmic progression, meaning 6.0 is 10 times or more acidic than 7.0. pH can only be measured on water-soluble materials. |

| Preservation | In framing, it is the careful maintenance and protection of works of art, using materials and procedures that will have no adverse effects on a piece of artwork and will protect the artwork from external damage. |
| Scrapbook | A collection of memories. Usually includes photos and journaling, although by definition a scrapbook can include anything memorable such as newspaper clippings, certificates, locks of hair, etc. Also known as Memory Books. |
